Happy heavenly birthday, Kobe. 🖤💜💛

Lakers fans, what is your favorite Kobe Bryant memory?

— Written by Silver Fox Twin Roy Williams 🦊

Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Fame guard Kobe Bryant was born 48 years ago today in Philadelphia, Pa. on August 23, 1978.

Kobe was taken from us far too soon in that tragic helicopter crash in California in January 2020, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.

One of my favorite Kobe memories goes back more than 15 years.

I’ve been a Lakers fan for more than 40 years, dating back to the days of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

So when my wife Patrice, daughter Naja, son Royce and I were vacationing in Memphis, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the Lakers play the Grizzlies at FedExForum.

We sat way up in the upper seats, but that didn’t matter. We were there to see Kobe Bryant!

And Kobe put on a show.

He scored 60 points to lead the Lakers to a 121-119 road victory over the Grizzlies on March 22, 2007. (Basketball Reference)

I may not remember every detail of that trip after all these years 😂, but I’ll never forget sitting in that arena with my family watching one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Kobe’s legacy was about much more than basketball. His relentless work ethic and “Mamba Mentality” continue to inspire generations.

“You have to work hard in the dark to shine in the light.”

Today, I’m remembering the player, the competitor, the father and the legend.

Happy heavenly birthday, Kobe. Your legacy lives on. 💜💛
