25 years later, his hometown still remembers him. A Celebration of the life of “A Hero Called Fish, Army Major Dwayne Williams
“High school & college kids not born on September 11, 2001 have Read About 9/11. We lived It.”

As I prepare to return home to Jacksonville for the 25th anniversary of 9/11, I’m especially looking forward to visiting my alma mater, Jacksonville High School, later this week.
The students I’ll meet Friday weren’t alive when nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on September 11, 2001 including my oldest brother, Army Major Dwayne Williams.
For many of these young people, 9/11 is something they’ve learned about in textbooks or seen on television.
But I want them to understand something:
Behind the history are real people. Real families. Real heroes.

Dwayne wasn’t just a name in a history book or one of the 184 people killed at the Pentagon.
He was my big brother.
He was a son, husband, father, athlete, soldier and friend.
And he was a hometown Jacksonville hero.
That’s why I’m going back to where our family’s story began.
I want to share Dwayne’s story with a new generation in a celebration of how he lived.
His sacrifice reminds us that the freedoms so many of us take for granted came with a tremendous price, paid by generations of military heroes with their blood, sweat and tears.
This week, we’re going to remember.
We’re going to teach.
And we’re going to Take the Day Back. 🇺🇸
