Army Major Dwayne Williams

“25 years later, Kim Williams song tribute “My Brother” still brings me to tears.”-Roy Williams

Written by Silver Fox Twin Roy Williams-Sometimes, you hear a song.

And sometimes, you feel a song.

For me, “My Brother” is one of those songs.

It was written and recorded by my brother Kim Williams as a tribute to our oldest brother, Army Major Dwayne Williams, who was killed during the terrorist attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Kim turned his grief, love and memories into music.

The song is the title track of Kim’s 2005 album My Brother, which features nine songs. The title song runs just over four minutes—but for our family, those minutes carry a lifetime of memories. (Amazon Music)

It truly captures the impact Dwayne had on our lives.

He was our brother.

He was my twin Troy and my childhood hero on the football field. He was Kim’s big brother and hang out partner. He was the best man at my wedding. He was a son, husband, father, soldier and friend.

And for those of us who knew him personally, there are countless memories that have nothing to do with September 11.

That’s what makes Kim’s song so special to me.

It reminds us that before Dwayne became a 9/11 hero, he was simply our brother.

A brother we loved.

A brother we laughed with.

A brother we looked up to.

A brother we still miss.

Nearly 25 years after Dwayne’s death, I continue trying to tell his story through my Take the Day Back mission.

Kim did it through music.

I do it through storytelling.

And together, we’re making sure Dwayne’s legacy isn’t defined only by the tragic way he died—but by the remarkable way he lived.
