One of the questions I get most is, “How do you keep your beard looking so good?”

The answer isn’t a secret product or expensive treatment.

It’s a talented barber named Trent Welch.

For the past six months, I’ve trusted Trent of Perfect Cutz, located inside Supreme Barbershop on Springville Road in Birmingham, to keep my head clean-shaven and my Silver Fox beard looking its best. About every two to three weeks, I settle into his chair knowing I’ll leave looking refreshed and camera-ready.

Today, July 30, 2026, was no different.

The before-and-after speaks for itself.

A Passion That Started at 14

Although Trent is just 27 years old and has been cutting professionally for two years, his barber journey began much earlier.

“I started cutting hair when I was 14,” he told me.

Over the years, he has developed a reputation for one specialty that many barbers shy away from—beards.

“I love cutting beards. They take a little more time than regular haircuts. I remember the first beard I cut—it didn’t come out right. But over time I caught on. Now I have a lot of customers who come to me specifically for their beard.”

That experience shows every time he picks up his clippers.

After my trim, I met another one of Trent’s loyal clients, Fred, 33, who was sporting a well-groomed black beard.

Like me, Fred says people often receive compliments on how sharp his beard looks, and he gives much of the credit to Trent’s attention to detail.

It reminded me that great barbers don’t just cut hair.

They build confidence.

As I’ve written in previous blogs, I may be a little obsessed with my Silver Fox beard.
