Notice the concentration as Silver Fox Roy picks his beard. Eyes locked in. Beard pick in perfect form. This is championship-level grooming.

Welcome Back!
If you read Part 1, you've already discovered that my wife Patrice believes I've traded one grooming obsession for another.
First it was a Jheri curl in college.
Now it's a Silver Fox beard.
In this chapter, the evidence starts piling up.
Apparently my beard routine doesn't stop when I leave the house.
According to my family...It follows me everywhere.
There's one item I never leave home without: my beard pick.
Some people never leave the house without their wallet. Others won't forget their phone.
Me?
I'm making sure my beard pick is in my pocket.
If I'm heading to work...It's with me.
If I'm traveling...It's in my carryon.
If I'm speaking at an event...It's nearby.
If I happen to walk past a mirror...
Well...
Let's just say there's a pretty good chance I'm going to stop for a quick beard inspection.
Patrice laughs because she says I groom my beard more often than some people check their phones.
I keep telling her she's exaggerating.
She keeps reminding me she has witnesses.
The scary part?
She probably does.
Mirror... Mirror... Everywhere
One thing I've learned since growing my Silver Fox beard is that mirrors seem to appear everywhere.
Restaurant mirrors.
Hotel mirrors.
Office restroom mirrors.
Department store mirrors.
If there's a reflective surface nearby...
My beard somehow notices before I do.
I'll glance over.
Tilt my head.
Fluff one side.
Smooth the other.
Then continue walking as if nothing happened.
At least...
That's what I think happens.
Patrice says everyone notices.
Even at the Airport...
One of my favorite family memories happened after Patrice and I returned from our Christmas cruise last year.
We were waiting to board our flight home at Orlando International Airport.
I had absolutely no idea what was happening behind me.
Patrice quietly pulled out her phone.
She never said a word.
She simply started recording.
Meanwhile...
There I stood...
Completely focused.
Completely serious.
Doing exactly what I always do.
Picking out my beard.
Fluffing it.
Making sure every hair was exactly where it belonged.
Totally unaware that I had become the star of my own comedy show.
🎥
Exhibit A. This is a replica video of an incident last year at Orlando Airport. Apparently I can't even wait to board an airplane without making sure every beard hair is in place. My family still laughs every time they watch this video.
When Patrice finally showed me the video...
I couldn't stop laughing.
Then she showed it to the rest of the family.
That made it even worse.
Everyone started laughing.
Not because I was doing anything embarrassing.
Because they all said...
"That's SO Roy."
Apparently, my beard routine had become family entertainment.
I guess every family has that one relative with a funny habit.
In ours...
It's me.
The Beard Has Become Part of My Personality
The funny thing is...
I don't even realize I'm doing it most of the time.
Running my fingers through my beard.
Straightening it.
Picking it out.
Checking both sides.
It's become second nature.
Kind of like someone adjusting their glasses or straightening their necktie.
Except...
Most people don't carry a beard pick everywhere they go.
And most people don't become the subject of airport videos because of it.
But then again...
Most people aren't trying to maintain a Silver Fox beard.
Confession Time...
I've finally reached the point where I can admit something.
Patrice has probably been right all along.
Maybe...
Just maybe...
I really am a little obsessed.
Although I still prefer to call it...
Quality control.
Coming Up in Part 3...
By now you've seen the evidence.
The beard pick.
The airport video.
Now it's time to answer the question I hear more than any other.
"How do you get your beard looking like that?"
In the final chapter, I'll share:
The beard products I actually use every day.
Why finding the right barber completely changed my Silver Fox look.
The funny Walmart conversation with a stranger who thought I dyed my beard white.
Why embracing my natural gray beard helped create the Silver Fox Twins.
And why Patrice still believes I spend more time shopping for beard products than she does for hair products.
(For the record... I'm neither confirming... nor denying... that accusation.)
I'll see you in the grand finale.
Because every Silver Fox has a few more grooming secrets left to tell.
Editor's Note
Think Roy really is obsessed with his beard?
After reading Part 2, we'd love to hear your verdict in the comments.
And don't miss Part 3, where Roy finally reveals the products, barber and routine behind his signature Silver Fox look—and shares the story of the stranger who couldn't believe his beard is naturally white.
